R.S.P - Reptilian Sexual Predator [Violent Revolution International - 2010]

R.S.P is rough ‘n’ nasty power electronics meets brutal ‘n’ sludgy noise drone project of Louisiana  based Joseph Gates(Slaughter-Fetus, Vargrwulf and Peiste). Reptilian Sexual Predator is the projects second release after a C47  tape which also appeared on Violent Revolution International (as does most of Mr Gates releases).

On offer here are four seared & nasty sonic exorcisms that last between ten and fourteen minutes a piece. Each track here is an edgy, sadistic and sliding sleazey mixture of  grey, caustic, suffocating, juddering and jittering noise grain ‘n’ drone. Screamed, bloody billowed and painfully ranted vocals, along with the odd juddering semi-rhythmic drones- but none of it really has divined rhythmic groundings to it. All the tracks here remain slowly tortures in their muffled and pained outpourings or unfolds- Gates really does conjure up a great sick, depraved and brutal air. He also mangers to create quite sleazed ‘n’ grimy atmospheric drifts too, when he’s not screaming his lungs out at you.

All told Reptilian Sexual Predator is a nice ‘n’ nasty ride for the most part, the only thing that let it down slightly for me was the mashed ‘n’ jitter pop radio elements that appeared in the last few mintues of the last track, as it seemed to lighten the bleak, pained and sleazed vibe Gates had built over the rest of album. But this is a minor quibble so if you like thick, sleazed and sludge PE- this is just up your sick street!.
