Vorg & Kaffehitler - Self Titled Split [HarshFuckedForLife - 2010]This split c90 tape offers up a length forty five track a piece from two HNW scene newcomers in the form of Vorg & Kaffehitler who both come from the city of Jonkoping in Smaland, Sweden- which is the ninth most populated city in Sweden. On the side one we have the untitled Vorg track/ side, which starts out with an drilling and often glitch bound juddering ‘wall’ of tone. As the track progresses Vorg nicely weaves and wraps the glitching and juddering/drilling tones together in a very appealing and often trance educing manner. There are no great structurally shifts along the tracks length, other then sudden stops for brief stripped judders or glitch unreel, yet it keeps your attention focused and your mind often a bit screwed-up as it tries to follow the juddering and glighting patterns of tone. The track has a nice tense & agitated feel about it, and it summons up very nicely this cold and going wrong robot feeling- like your trapped and panicked in a maze fall of malfunction and crazed robots. All told the tracks an interesting and quite original take on the ‘wall’ making genre, maybe you could call it glitch ‘n’ wall?! Flipping over to side two we have the Kaffehitler untitled track/side. And this side ‘wall’ is a fairly fast paced mixture of crusty juddering, stuck almost percussive rumble, and muffled horse shoe like galloping. Over the tracks forty five minute length the ‘wall’ is kept constant and un-relenting, yet the crusty judder, stuck rumble and muffled gallop switch from the front of tracks ‘wall’ and back again in a very effective and rewarding manner. Again this side is another very worthwhile slice of HNW- maybe not as original or distinctive as the first side, but never the less it’s a very well made and active yet focused slice of 'Wall' making. So two very worthwhile & lengthy ‘walls’ from these two scene newcomers- kudos must go to HFFL for discovering these two acts and putting their first works out. I'm very much looking forward to hear what both Vorg & Kaffehitler have to offer in the future. Roger Batty
