Jake Vida - Ten Arrows [Pointless Blank Records - 2009]

Ten Arrows is a exhilarating, totally brutal & rollercoaster-off the rails attack on the senses taking in elements of:  rapidly cut-up junk matter, roaring sheets of Japanese like noise , stretchers of wall matter, vein bulging vocal rants & attacks, pumped up & blown-out electronics & all manner of teeth gritting & eye popping sonic twists & turns.

This is a reissue of Jake Vida's(Canadian noise maker & runner of the Pointless Blank records) original ltd 17 copy cdr from 2006 with a extra new sonic bombardment added on. And I can safely this mean. rabid & speed-fed puppy certainly ripped me off my feet and literal threw me around the room with it’s manic cut-up & angular texturing cutting ways. The first two tracks (which featured on the original release) take in just shy of 25 minutes & just under 20 minutes a picec & show not only brutal cutting & texturing talents, but also a great understanding of sonic dramatics, tense & how to lay noise together in an effective, jarring & extremely compelling manner- each of the two tracks literal whizz by as you hang on for dear life as they twist, turn, suddenly stop or rage at you like a manic overloaded machine.

The last & previously unreleased track comes in just shy of the 10 minute mark; this track  slows down the break neck  pace little bit by starting out first with a group of phaser & chugging like noise tones that shift into pumped-up & set on fire electro rhythmic attacks. The tracks less textural varied for most of it’s running time & it mostly keeps nice & thick through-out it’s brutal sonic tenure. Though there’s still lots of interesting & searing elements firing themselves out at you over the more phaser & chugging noise base attack of the track. All told the tracks a nice extra which is not as hectic & brain twisting as the first tracks, though it’s still a well thought-out &  very exhilarating piece of noise matter.

Truly a hang on to your seat, pumped-up, break- neck noise attack that’s executed with great style, flare & creatively. To find out more, hear samples & buy direct pop along to Pointless blank records site here.
