Steve Roach - A Deeper Silence [Time Room Editions - 2009]

A Deeper Silence sees seasoned ambient explorer Steve Roach stripping his sound down to its darkest, most haunted and hypnotic form for a near on 75 minute journey into revolving gloomy yet soothing ambient expanse.

The track is built around this almost noir like harmonic dark and dusky synth drone which rather brought to mind Angelo Badalamenti  more drone based  dark work for David Lynch soundtracks or even the atmospheric stripped keyboard moments of Bohern & Der Club Of Gore's Black Earth album. Though out the piece Roach slowly circles the drone in a smoky and dramatic manner; just letting your mind grab its haunted hook before it once more slides off into the darkness to be replaced by another drone. It’s simple yet highly effective in it’s heady sonic unfolding, giving one the feeling of sliding on & on through silky vast darkness .

A Deeper Silence is a very hypnotic and at times almost sensually darkly hued slice of meditative ambient music that is perfect for lengthy imagination wonderings, meditation or shadowy chill-out sessions.
