Nadja - Bliss Torn From Emptiness [Profound Lore Records - 2008]

Bliss Torn from Emptiness is a highly successful, epic and atmospheric marriage of ambience, drone craft, post rock and pummelling yet beautiful guitar heaviness. Managing to mix genre traits with ease making a sound and sonic world that is completely and utterly on their own.

This was original released as a very limited CDR several years ago as a single 43 minute track, here it returns as a 53 minute re-imagined piece split into 3 long tracks and though the tracks are now separate entity’s it still all followers similar patterns and themes still really working as one long piece. Over it’s near on hour life the piece goes through all manner of sonic peaks and valleys from cinematic expanses of keyboard and heavy guitar scapes, to stretched strange ambient textures ominous with clunking piano tones, to all out  heavy and dense guitar tone that literally  smothers you in it’s sonic weight and depth. Though- out all it’s twist and turns you attention is kept completely and utterly, it also mangers to effect you both on a physical, mental and atmospheric level.

I’ve been highly impressed by what I’ve heard from Nadja, but Bliss torn From Emptiness is simply a must have item if you have even a passing interesting in any kind of atmospheric music, drone or epic guitar scapes.
