Netherworld - Mørketid [Glacial Movements Records - 2007]Mørketid is a Norwegian term that indicates a certain period of year when Arctic winter encases everything and the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon, Neat title and concept which doesn’t really seem to continue on to the ambient unwinding enclosed. You see it all feels too active and often bright in its sound pallet to be linked to such a dark and timeless period, there's also an almost constant use of muffled or distant dialogue samples over the ambient synth/guitar revolutions, which again indicates activity and movement which surely they’d be little of if the land is dark and encased in ice. Anyway on with what we do have here musically; I guess the best comparison is maybe not as inspired Biosphere- when he uses guitar textures, we basically have six tracks of faring lengths but really sounding a bit too similar for there own good. Really a by numbers ambient record that drifts by harmless enough but there really is little new or different, or for that matter memorable to bring you rush back for more. Roger Batty
