Buy this CD now!
'Genesis.2' is the other half of the two singles released by VNV Nation to wet our appetites for their upcoming album 'Futureperfect'. Just like 'Genesis.1', it offers us the title track a few times; once more the single version and 2 different remixes than on 'Genesis.1'. It again also offers us one previously unreleased track, this time 'Left Behind'.

Now, why do we need to buy two singles that both feature the single version of 'Genesis', I don't understand. I guess it is a good way to make money off gullibly fans like me, but otherwise I don't see the point of it. I however do really enjoy the Ivory frequency remix of 'Genesis' a lot.. To me this is the best remix of the combined singles. That track has more of a body and the slightly uninteresting intro from the single version has been replaced by a much stronger one that gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside. There also is a much stronger and enjoyable beat throughout the entire song, not to mention that the musical build-up follows the lyrics a lot better; lyrics and music are one.

The absolute highlight of this single, however, is 'Left Behind'. I never thought VNV Nation could make a song more depressing then 'Rubicon'. Well, with 'Left Behind' they toppled it! A sad darkwavish epos dealing with, as far as I can make out, thedisbelieve of having to suffer the loss of the person you loved. It has a tendency to almost drive me to tears. Ronan's gentile voice really gets to you when he sings lyrics such as "please open your eyes, nothing is wrong.... Nothing is wrong", you can just imagine him holding the lifeless body of one he once loved, unwilling to accept that she killed herself because she could not deal with life. This song just sends shivers down my spine in a most uncomfortable way. I like it!

All in all I can say that both singles have definitely made me hungry for more. It is a shame that the release date has been pushed back. Both 'Genesis' singles work well in their role as pacifiers for fans and in my opinion that is the only way you should view them.
