Sewer Election - Sex/Death [Troniks - 2007]Sex/death is a rather nasty and nihilistic take on noise. For most of it’s playing time it feels like your head has been forced in a furnace, your whole being engulfed by bellowing and ripping sound with little rhyme or reason, or anything approaching easy on the ears - this just cooks and cooks you until your eyes feel like they’ll pop. Split into three tracks with two full on noise attacks surrounding a more atmosphere but equally unpleasant middle track that walks into subtle noise drone/ psycho ambient, feeling like you’ve just been left to survey the carnage and sexual depravity of orgy come grisly slaughter before once more the real pain kicks in again. The middle track oddly stands as the most effective here too, midway it adds in some very chilling Rosemary Baby like child/ female chanting loops under the stale grey sweat drone. The two noise tracks are passable enough too, with recorder like elements appearing here and there under the sound burn, which relates to the young girl playing recorder on the album cover. Though I would have preferred more movement in the noise and textures because at times it feels a little stuck in a rut. Music primed perfectly for snuff parties, killing sprees or just genral humanity dislike. Bleak unforgiving and brutal- approach with caution. Roger Batty
