Vacant Algin - 2626 [Self release - 2026]Here’s a thirty-minute slice of bass-affected and lightly textural skittering walled noise, with a decidedly murky aquatic feel. Vacant Algin is a Wisconsin-based project, and going from their Bandcamp, they been active since October last year, with three other releases to their name. This is a digital-only release put out by the project itself. For the cover, we have a minimal monochrome picture which is largely in blackness, save for the top quarter, which could maybe be the top of a fish take…but this is just a guess, based on the vibe the track gives off. The release can be found here
The single track featured comes in at dead on the half-hour mark. It’s built around a fairly rapid/ choppy bass roll ‘n’ churn- this is topped with a mix of smaller grain grit sear, and a more chalkily juddering texture. As mentioned in my introduction, there is most certainly a murky aquatic feel to the proceedings, with one's mind either going from trying to look through a thickly debris-hazed tank, where something rather odd/sinister is constantly darting around. Or taking a drive down in thick stagnant water- where something keeps violently brushing by you, but as the water has such low visibility, you can’t make out what it is.
I must say, as an early release from a project 2626 is impressive, as the textures used, and the way they are presented, are fairly original/distinctive. So a most promising release, which I hope Vacant Algin can equal/ or maybe even better down the line.
