Spent Stiletto/ No Fun Harsh Noise Wall - Split [Stemms Audio - 2026]Here we have a digital/ split EP bringing together two walls. One is decidedly pop/grit-bound from the UK’s Spent Stiletto, and the other thicker/ cruder buffeting weather-bound affair from USA’s No Fun Harsh Noise Wall. Each wall hits dead on the ten-minute mark. For cover art, we get a basic/ but effective enough abstract shapes in static picture. The EP can be found here
So first up, we have a track from scene newcomer Spent Stiletto- I’ve only heard one other release from this project thus far, and I liked what I heard. Their track here is entitled “GROTESQUEDANCING”- it’s built around a thicker line of pop ‘n’ snap, which is surrounded by constant feasting static. The main element is clean & set in its flow, while the secondary elements may have a little play in them. All in all, it’s a nicely urgent ‘wall’ with the grit detail pulling you deeper in.
Next, we of course, have No Fun Harsh Noise Wall, their track “SUFFOCATION DREAM”. Here we find a wonky/ weathered drone, being overfed by smaller jittering static. Here I’m getting images of trying to drive in a white-out snow storm- you're in low gear, but you just keep sliding/ slipping. The track has a keen sense of both wooziness and crudity about it.
So a decent wall noise split- with two consistent tracks, which work well both on their own and together. Roger Batty
