Vomir - Future Dust( C60) [Handmade Birds - 2024]From March this year, Future Dust is a C60 severing up two sides of terminal bleak & unrelenting walled noise from one of the masters of the form Vomir. The release appears on North Texas-based Handmade Birds, been part of their Critical Fabric - Yellow Series- each release in the series comes with a O-card with a sticker ( with text the ‘Physical Media Fetish’), piece of yellow cloth, rolled up piece of yellow tissue paper, clothing style tag, and a circular tag on a string. The tape is a see-through dark red affair with a small silver sticker on one side- I’m entirely sure what the numbers on these are- though they are now sold out with the label, though I did see a few noise distros have copies.
It’s certainly fair to say Vomir( aka Frenchman Roro Perrot) somewhat cut down on the releases he’s put out. At one point in the mid-2010’s it seemed like there was a Vomir release every few weeks…but these days they are less often. So with that in mind it must be a year since we last played/ reviewed some Vomir on the site- so this is a welcome treat.
The first side takes in “Future Dust 1”. This ‘wall’ is a blend of muffled-yet-galloping judder mids, clattering wash ‘n’ searing, and distant bass belts. The whole thing feels akin to trying to struggle on your hands & knees through a constantly rain lashed & beaten landscape- with all the while a steady wind rushes by ripping along the exhaust blacked bone white buildings. At points it feels like there is a slight shift in the 'rush'- be it texture altering, or pace changing- but this is just your mind trying to make sense of the constant searing grey rush.
Moving onto side two & we have “Future Dust 2”. This seems a lot more straightforward & grabs the throat ‘wall’ compared with the first more muffled. We find searing and rapid mids, sitting alongside rattling roasts ‘n’ subtle swirling hiss. This time we feel like we’re been rapidly dragged along a line of rusty train rails, on the back of a busted-up & broken car door. Again it feels like there may be one or two shifts here- but of course, there is not….this is just a searing race in sonic oblivion.
It certainly is great to see Future Dust appearing- and once again Vomir remains firm, extremely seared & unforgiving in his ride into pure old-school walled. Roger Batty
