Caldon Glover - Labyrintia [Cyclic Law - 2022]Based in the labyrinth of space, time, and parallel universes, Caldon Glover's Labyrintia creates a vast soundscape for the listener to transcend their own reality and explore those alternate timelines beyond the realm of consciousness. Utilizing both acoustic and electronic sound sources, the intermingling of time and energy constructs a deep and highly evocative atmosphere that links not only the past, the present, and the future, but also this current universe with those which may or may not exist. Teamed up with large and expressive artwork by Nihil, Labyrintia is a fantastic journey for those looking to explore as far as their mind can wander. Deep, dense, and ever-expanding, Labyrintia manages to fit the infinite scope of multiple universes into an hour-long composition. Spread over seven interwoven tracks, Glover finds the walls of one's reality and pushes them ever outward. Built upon a lower, thicker vibe, Labyrintia slowly lurches ahead in all directions simultaneously, and like a sonic snowball, picks up pieces of sound and different instruments to bring forth and expose to the listener at varied and different parts of time and space. This mix of older, acoustic instruments and whispered vocals with vibrant and slowly oscillating electronic layers helps encourage a deeper emotional response within the listener. Past and future collide and one becomes more awakened to not only their own existence, but those of distant ancestors, unknown descendants, and alternate selves. Glover manages to capture all of this space with a fairly grim, dark approach that at times straddles dark ambient and a restrained death industrial. Avoiding the more ethereal elements gives Labyrintia a sober feeling, more apt for the philosophical and spiritual journey the listener will most likely take. The vastness of the universe is cold and bleak, and this album makes for a perfect soundtrack to taking it all in.
Caldon Glover's latest album, Labyrintia, is a dark, evocative soundscape allowing the listener to travel through the depths of this universe, the mind, and all parallel and other universes that one can imagine. Delightfully dark with artwork to match, this hour-long excursion is a very welcome vision both sonically and visually. Although Labyrintia is a limited-release CD, it is unlimited in scope and its vision allows for many different trips through varied existences Paul Casey
