Psychiatrist - No Detours Are Allowed In This Society [Self release - 2021]Here’s a thirty-two-minute slice of dense rip ‘n’ hack bound walled noise from Japanese wall noise project Psychiatrist. The release appears as a self-released download on the artists Bandcamp, and it's a nicely numbing example of overloaded HNW with some rewarding layer shifts. The releases cover is a simple monochrome picture of what looks like either a microscope slide of clustered matter, or a hazed/ blurred photo of some flowering bush/ plant. So very minimal and simple art, but it works well enough for the wall with-in.
The untitled track comes in at the 32.11 mark. And it opens with a blend of rapidly shifting rip, cluttering static hack, and swirl mid-range white out. These elements are fed together in a decidedly rushing and overloaded sonic mesh. There is a feeling of been overwhelmed and troubled manic-ness within the ‘wall’, which nicely pulls you in from the off, and keeps you held throughout. As we move through the ‘wall’ we get nice sub-tone rises occurring from time to time, be it a sudden skipping 'n' jittering static grained reels, thicker more roaming low-to-mid drones, or cluttering grey static hacks.
So, in summing up No Detours Are Allowed In This Society- I’d say if you enjoy densely rushing, at points white-out walled noise, that features some effective-yet-subtle layer shifts- I think you’ll get something from what we have here.
