Poisonous Cure - Container Home Dream [Inner Demons Records - 2020]Poisonous Cure is one of the more recent projects from respected French noise-maker Julien Skrobek, and as with a lot of his work this 3inch CDR hovers around the walled noise genre- and depending on where you draw the line, this is either active & shifting walled noise, or wallish harsh noise. This release appeared March of this year on Florida’s Inner Demons Records- featured is just a single 18.06-minute track. The CDR is presented in monochrome mini sleeve- this a lined like texture. The release is hand-numbered on the small back slip, and comes with a DL code- it came in an edition of forty-two copies- and according to the labels Bandcamp there are still copies available.
The track here is titled "Container Home Dream"- which apparently relates to Skrobek fascination with container homes in Hong Kong, so certainly an original theme for walled/ noise release. The track begins with a ‘wall’ that brings together smarting & lightly hacking noise- this shifts between suddenly amassed sears, and pettering-back clutters. By around the three-minute mark, a swirling & hissing sway has kicked, and blended with cluttering hacking tones. At just past the six-minute mark we pare back again to just a jumping static clutter, and fair soon this is added to by a hiss sway 'n' sweep. And for the rest of the track Skrobek either pairs back things or builds deeper sways of sound- with at least one of the former textures in place.
In finishing I guess I probably appreciate Container Home Dream more than I like it- as it’s clear Skrobek talent as a noisemaker is on display again with the skilful build, reducing, then adding the structure of the whole thing….I’d say if you enjoy where wall & harsh noise blur, then I think you’ll enjoy this…I personally just wish it had dwelled longer on some of the wall settings.
