Grand Goat Glorification - Demoicum [Archivio Audioa Nonimo - 2016]

The provocatively named Demoicum is a four track CDR & digital download from this rather mysterious Russian HNW project.  And what’s on offer here is four dense, seared, though fairly indistinctive slabs of  walled noise.

I’m reviewing the CDR version of the release, which is now  out of print- but you can still of course download the digital version of the release. The pro made CDR is labelled, and comes in a oversized clear plastic slip-sleeve- this features monochrome artwork of skulls, body like shapes, and ripped collage like feel. You also get a  smaller blood red tinged sticker taking in the releases artwork.

Each track here comes in at spot-on the fifteen minute mark, and each is really just pummelling, unforgiving & fixed wall-craft- nothing more. With a genre like HNW, it’s often quite subjective to whether you enjoy a certainly ‘wall’ or not, and I’m afraid to report pretty much all four the tracks  here washed over me in a fairly underwhelming & bland manner.  I just felt that both the textures used, the way they where blended together, and the overall impact of the tracks was  lacking

The four tracks are entitled “Incubus A”, “Incubus B”, Succubus A”, and “Succubus B”. And out of these four only the second track stood out to me with it’s blend of crude ‘n’ splattering low-end, and static splashing jittering’s. Though it’s not really anything worth write home about, and by mid-way though I’d become less impressed.

Each of the other three tracks utilize different texturally blends, so clearly some thought/ time has been put into this- with the tracks going from mixes of deep roasting judders & skittering static tops, through to continuous flows of meaty jittering edged with smaller snapping tones. It’s just they didn’t entrance, present anything different, or really have any distinctive atmosphere about them- and   really any successful ‘wall’ needs at least to fulfil one of these, and to my ears none of these tracks really do.

So in summing up Demoicum, there’s not much I can recommend here really- I guess if you are attracted  by either the title, or the projects demonic & kinky themes it might be worth playing a few of the tracks on the labels bandcamp, and they might click with you…but personally I found the whole thing rather non-descript & bland.
