Poisucevamachenille - Poisucevamachenille [Outline Records - 2010]“Poisucevamachenille” offers up a single, shifting often playful & quirky track that dips down in: violin, glockenspiel, water sound and off-kilter percussion based improv, jaunting early Residents like toy town marches, wavering ‘n’ wonky 70’s euro pop vocalising, organ drones, swells of harmonic ‘n’ bouncing yet off kilter horn work, bent & melted pop rock, dripping & wonky singer song writer fare, layers of wonky vocals, and all manner of jaunting playgroup like sound making. The Cd is all the work of Italian sonic eccentric Ezio Piermattei, who was formerly in cartoon rock band Levis Hostel. The single track featured here comes in at just over the thirty one minute mark, and truly it’s an unhinged, often child-like buoyant, strange & odd ride…..you really don’t know where it’ll sit down next- will it go odd & bashing improv like?, will it stomp into a demented horn ‘n’ synth march that sounds like an runaway children 80’s TV show theme?. Or will it just drop into a mixture glockenspiel banging, layers of mumbled voices & off-kilter string twang?, or maybe it will burst into bright strummed guitar pop that suddenly starts to melt & drip before your ears. Clearly Piermattei has spent a lot of time & effort into making this track as odd, heady, brain frying & twisted as possible, and even after quite a few plays your often still surprised where the track sudden twists or wonders off to next. So this a deeply puzzling, playful & odd record that will appeal to those enjoy a mixture of: mess-up easy listening / pop, playful & dada lined composition, demented children’s music, and genreal odd sonic composition that doesn’t really fit in any one sonic genre… Roger Batty
