GR & The Full Blown Expansion - Self titled [World In Sound - 2010]GR & The Full Blown Expansion is the solo work of Gunslinger’s own Gregory Raimo. It erupts as a spazztic rock and roll album raging with chaotic rhythms and psychedelic free jazz elements. There is a very eccentric feel to this record and comes out a little offbeat with strange Captian Beefheart-esque vocals, freak out drumming, psychedelic organs and some reverb heavy guitar work. Tracks such as “The Metal Spike”, and “The Intercessor Speaks” are wild enough to make you stand up and want to dance while others like “Descent Along The An-Ti-Fohn-Nul” are still very stimulating and interesting to listen to. The packaging is a little disappointing and unattractive as its simply black and grey stencil style image of Raimo on the front and a collage with written out descriptions of instruments used on each song printed on glossy digipack. Also included are some linear notes talking about GR written by Billy Boy Miller of Cold Sun, The Aliens and Blood Drained Cows. Clearly this is the stranger side of GR as his alter ego really lets out all the surprisingly repressed freak outs already heard and apparently mildly from what one would hear from Gunslingers which is a lot more straightforward than this project.
