Churner/Hostage Pageant - Selt Titled [VNA Recordings - 2010]

This is a split CDr of two noise acts from Virginia, Churner and Hostage Pageant.  Yes indeed, south of the Mason-Dixon line has always been a hotbed for Harsh Noise (or HNW as I think they call it now) starting with (of course) Taint from Texas.

Churner's material is definitely as harsh as it gets. "Set the Corpse Up in the Corner" is a minimal noise assault, although the second track "Breaking (Frequencies) Up is Hard to Do" has more of a variety of static-y, grinding sounds.  Hostage Pageant is much similar to Churner as their second track "Kindness for Weakness" also has a varying assortment of noise, at one point there does seem to be shouting and banging on metal in the Test Department vein.  This CDr is housed in a rather unassuming plastic sleeve and computerized artwork.  Of course this is harsh noise without much ambiance -- everything here is pretty much as-is and direct-to-tape.  You wouldn't expect it to be more than what it is...  Think of Harsh Noise Wall as a cement wall the listener can slam into and you get the idea.

So a very well-done Southern-fried noise attack from two artists.  Indeed those who can't get enough of this stuff will want this.
