Gnaw Their Tongues - For All Slaves.... A Song For False Hope [Burning World Records - 2009]

For All Slaves.... A Song For False Hope is the new work from sonic depravity maker Gnaw Their Tongues(aka Maurice De Jong) & this as usually is another  damned mix sinister soundtrack cut-up, doom and extreme metal  mashing and industrial grim ‘n’ clunk.

After been so sickly impressed by De Jong’s other work as Gnaw Their Tongues I was really  looking forward to been disgusted, disturbed and a little freaked-out. But sadly I have say to I came away from this near on hour long ep rather disappointed, under-wellemed & worse of all rather un-offered.  The main problem here and culprit for the atmosphere shattering is the amount of layers of sampled film soundtrack that are been used here; De Jong has layered them up to such a level they’ve lost there impact & atmospheric depth, often not letting the soundtrack elements have enough emotional impact before drop a tone of other stuff on top of them- so as a result this often feels mess, unfocused and un-atmospheric. Sure there are still a few good (but not great) moments here; A Fiery Deluge with it’s loose doomed bass tone simmered by melancholy string loops- with on top a disturbing spoken word text about religious influence torture and begging female voices. Or the last track For All Slaves.... A Song For False Hope part II with it’s more straight up atmospheric mettlic guitar runs and builds. It shows De Jong reaching quite speedy levels sounding may be a bit like a rougher take on something off Sigh’s Hail, horror Hail when it got horror filled yet retro metallic influenced. But really neither of these are up to the standard of his past work

I really tried to like this after been so impressed and grimly taken by Gnaw Their Tongues other work- but sadly most of this doesn’t delivery either in atmosphere, or consistent and engaging composition which is a great shame. Lets hope Mr De Jong rediscovery his grim talent for his disturbing cross breed next time round.
