Gerritt - Proof of Power [Misanthropic Agenda - 2007]Proof of powers brings together four new compositions from California noise maker and Misanthropic Agenda label owner Gerritt. It finds him mixing noise textures and sound elements in an interesting and often quite organic sounding way. The four tracks are presented on nice heavy black vinyl with two tracks per side.Though I felt a little disappointed as it didn’t seem to have the same power and playful jarring edge as some of his other work, it has certainly grown on me and shows some interesting and inventive elements at play like the drop into what sounds like distant cello drone for a few moments on the first track or the nice grainy almost drone end to the same track. Most of the tracks consist of falling and rising different sonic textures be or noise or sounds that are cut togeather. As mentioned early it does at times have a organic feel-with tracks like the first one on side two at times having the feeling of sped-up bizarre growing and eruption of green and wet vegetation, as if it’s snaking around your head engulfing you in a green cocoon. Through not one of my favourite Gerritt release there’s certainly some interesting elements at play and attempts to really innovate, I just miss his more crazy side.. Roger Batty
