Nina Nastasia & Jim White - You Follow Me [Fat Cat Records - 2007]

Sadly this collaboration between the usually wonderful Nina Nastasia & Jim White is a rather lacklustre affair of passable to by-numbers song writing, thats a mix of  often random rhythms and folk strum.

It just feels as if this was rushed out, there’s little of the magic that pervade all of the tracks on Nastasia second album from last year. Both musically and sadly lyrical too, it just feels very uninspidered and thrown together. The tracks seem to have little variation in pace or tune, the fresh, haunted and memorable tunes that where present in the past are near non-existent here. The clever wordy story telling  lyrics that gave one the feeling of hovering over her sholder are also very sparse too.  It seems very set in rather a bleak, drawn out emotional air- there seems a lot of pain here, with little love or hope to balance and round things off.

It really is a great pity how disspointing this is, either more song writing time & effort should have been put into this or a complete rethink before releasing it. It just feels sloppy and rather bland  leavening one feeling very let down.
