PINK WOOL - Nightsweater [Gates Of Hypnos - 2025]Nightsweater is seemingly the debut release from this Oregon-based wall of noise project. It’s a twenty-minute ‘wall’ with a decidedly soothing clutter & mellowly juddering quality to its crumbling ‘n’ crusty unfold. The cover artwork is a monochrome affair, taking in what looks like a magnified picture of some form of fabric- from the project's name, and the release's title, I’m guessing some form of sweater/ jumper. It’s a digital release put out by Poland’s Gates Of Hypnos- head here to check it out.
The single track featured here rolls in at twenty minutes and twenty-nine seconds. The ‘wall’ is built around a steady, though thinned back bass purr- this is topped with two, maybe three juddering & cluttering textures, which have a decidedly crumbling & crusty quality about them. At points it feels like the whole thing could suddenly slow and grind to a halt- but it never does. As mentioned earlier, there is a decidedly comfy quality to the whole ‘wall’, which of course ties in perfectly to the themes here.
In finishing, Nightsweater is a most worthy debut release from PINK WOOL- taking in an engaging & soothingly entrancing wall, and a rather distinctive theme/ focus. I very much look forward to hearing what the project does next. Roger Batty
