Worship/Sado Ritual - Split [Gates Of Hypnos - 2023]Here’s a rope bondage-themed wall noise split bringing together mysterious/ unknown location project Worship, and Poland’s Sado Rituals. Each project presents us with two tracks a piece- these have runtimes between twenty-two and thirty minutes- the split offers up nearly two hours of noise. The release is a digital download. The cover artwork is a picture of a topless woman tried to a tree- here light brown hair over her face, with an intense look set in her eyes. The release can be downloaded here.
So first up we get the two Worship tracks. First up we have “Respectful Deviance”- which comes in at spot on the half-hour mark. It’s a ‘wall’ that brings together a sustained high-range warbling tone- with a backdrop rattling mid-ranged judder- with some thinner rattle on top- over time this get more weathered; though this might just be a trick of the ‘wall’. The whole thing has a rather enchanting heating system purr- with subtle industrial undertones.
Next, we have the second Worship track which is entitled “Tightly Weaved”, and this comes in dead on the twenty-four-minute work. Here we get a blend of low end & slightly crunch-tipped judder- this is edged by a slight choppy spin. With the weight and depth of the whole thing’s bass tone seemingly get more crushing as things progress. And by the 8th minute, there has been another layer of added-on to proceedings- with some loose choppy clutter ‘n’ rattle being added.
Track number three is the first Sado Ritual track- this is entitled “She barely bears the burden of her unearthly beauty” this rolls in at just under the twenty-eight-minute mark. The track is centred around a centrally mid-ranged juddering element- around this we get these most effective shifting sub-layers of rattling fuzz grain, gritty sweep, and hissing pelt. At points, the central element seems to become altered- but I think it’s just a trick of the ‘wall’. A most compelling multi-layered wall.
Lastly, we have the second & final Sado Ritual track “She performs a self-scarification ritual”- this slides in at just over the twenty-two-minute mark. The track opens with an urgent electro-droning tone- fairly soon the volume of this tone is dropped. And we get the addition of tightly shredding static, which is underfed by on-pressing ‘n’ muffled bass drag. Again a most effective example of wall-craft, and I love the way the urgent tone is kept locked & repeating in the background.
In finish, this is an excellent walled noise split- offering nearly two hours of high-quality & cleverly textured noise craft. With each party presenting two top-class and creative walls- really what more could you ask from a wall noise split? Roger Batty
