Magda - Gloria Swanson In The Rubble [Self release - 2023]Gloria Swanson In The Rubble is a single-track affair from this New Jersey wall noise project- which themes all of its releases around female models, cinema and glamour of the 1920s to 1940s. This is a digital self-release- with it featuring does-what-it-says-on-the-box cover artwork, featuring a picture of Silent starlet Gloria Swanson in a fancy gown & jewels in the rumble of a once grand theatre. The pictures from Life magazine it was taken in 1960, and is of The Roxy motion picture theatre which stood between 50th St. and 7th Ave in New York City. The release can be found here
The single track self-titled track comes in dead on the ten-minute mark. With the ‘wall’ been a blend of constant and rapidly tumbling crusty crunch- which is edged baying bass bound rumble, and shredding sub-tone judders. And really as one would hope with a track of this title/ theme it very much brings to mind the steady collapse of a building of a building around you- with bass bound giving the whole a nicely brooding undercurrent to the proceedings.
I’d say Gloria Swanson In The Rubble is another worthy release from Magda- I just wish maybe it was maybe double, or triple its length so one can get well and truly lost in the ‘walls’ batter ‘n’ tumble. But never the less it's an interestedly themed wall- which is executed well- with a good balance of textures & clarity. Roger Batty
