Megaptera - You will never Survive This Nightmare [Live bait Recording Foundation - 0000]

There’s something rather charmingly dark and lo-fi about You will never survive this nightmare. Much like watching a great chessey  and grim 80’s horror moive or murky video nasty. This is a cheap sleazy hit- built around  ragged industrialized  drum machine loops and muffled samples. Maybe I’m not paint the best picture of it, but I really have a soft spot for this double disk.

It brings together all the tracks from the projects first tape- You will recover bought out  in 1991 on Nüxdorf recordings. The rest is made from other rare bit and bobs though out their discography,  it all  seems to jell quite well and fairly consistent in the quality of the tracks, which cant be said for many compilation. Disk one is more minimal & basic death industrial rhythmic loops, swimming with decaying and sinister synth patterns and muffled grimness. Disk two has more sophisticated and layered works with more use of samples- but they manage to use unheard of  horror movie dialogue and other creepy bits in a very effective way,and never over using samples either. Don’t get me wrong Disk two still has its bloody popcorn vibe, this isn’t too sophisticated.  Really this works as a excellent pre or past horror movie soundtrack or to read horror novels to.

The inlay seems to imply that the project is no more, which is a pity if this is the case, as there too little grim lo-fi fun around. Anyway A must buy if you enjoy gory and grim horrific vibe, but with a very tongue in cheek edge.
