See Through Buildings - I Take Your Entrance Back [HNW Netlabel - 2023]

Now here’s a most welcome release- a new full-length from the US walled noise project See Through Buildings. The digital release features two half an hour tracks, which are both densely weaved-yet- creatively textured wall craft.

Behind the project is California-based Ben Rehling, whose a long-running wall noise scenester.  See Through Buildings has been active since 2015- releasing nearly 100 releases, which by wall noise standards is a fairly scant discography, but Mr Rehling has always put a lot of time, effort, and thought into each of his releases. I think the last time I heard anything from See Through Buildings, is a few years back- so this is a very welcome return.

This digital release appears on UK’s HNW netlabel, which in the last few months has become one of the more prolific walled noise labels- though the quality/ variation of releases has remained interesting/varied, which can’t be said for all digital noise labels!. Artwork wise I take Your Entrance Back features a high-contrast picture of a desert scape with a blue sky backdrop. The album can be found here

First up we have “Spill My Tincture”. This opens full ‘n’ roasting from the off, with a blend of rapidly rushing buffet ‘n’ bay- and just behind this you can make out this buzzing almost musical element, which gives the whole thing a subtle wide open plains atmosphere.  Around the two-and-a-half-minute mark we get two additions to the base of the weird rolling rumble/warbling- which is rather erratic, and a most intense line rapidly shredding static.  By the fifth minute, a wavering like kettle boiling tone is used to top the whole thing off, as we nice and firmly locked into the hellish-thick-yet creatively textured wall. With just towards the end the higher pitched element becomes more juddering in its attack, as well as a hint of haunting harmonic tone- just as the track fades out.

Finally, we have “Varmint’s Path”. This begins with a slightly loser mesh of slowly battering static, sweeping slight uneven scrape ‘n’ snap, and steady grain pelt. As the track into its fifth minute the scape ‘n’ snape elements feel both more busy and detailed in their feel, and this creates a feeling akin of look through a mass of snaping & slicing cutlery. By around the ninth minute, I can make a subtle buffeting tone that’s added to the mix, and this once more brings to mind broken sun-baked plains. The buffeting possibly increases/ ages as the ‘wall’ progresses, but otherwise, this feels like a less texture detail adding ‘wall’.

I Take Your Entrance Back features two dense, yet craftily sculptured takes on the wall noise form- which certainly shows that Rehling is still a highly talented wall creator. So another worthy addition to See Through Buildings discography- though pity it’s not in physical form, oh well sadly that’s the state of the scene at present…any I won’t end of negative!...a must check out release.
