Wallcroft - Thoughtless [Death To Dynamics - 2022]

Thoughtless is just over seventy-two minute journey in densely battering ‘n’ billowing Harsh Noise Wall form. It’s an unrelating attack from the off, featuring an impenetrable mesh of droning lows and rattling mids.

The release is a digital download on UK Death To Dynamics. Artwork wise a murky painting of three grey, and slightly green around the gill’s humanoid figures staring bleakly out at you.  The album can be decently downloaded from here.

Wallcroft is a Texas-based project, which has seemingly been active since 2021. With a hundred-plus release to its name already- these take in a fair few stand-alone releases and splits- with seemingly much of the project's output appearing in the bandcamp/ digital form.

The album features a single self-titled track that comes in at just over the seventy-two-minute mark. The ‘wall’ brings together a constantly rolling billowing drone, and a selection of rattling, skittering, cluttering mids. The low end is decidedly muffled and murky, while the mids have a slightly fuzzing grey static feel to their attack. As the track progresses we get the sensation that the mids are possibly fading/faltering at points, but I think this is just a trick of the ‘wall’. The whole thing has a rewardingly entrancing pull to it, though I’m not sure it needed to be quite so long- as in the last twenty or so minutes my attention did start to wane somewhat.

In finish, if you’re looking for a densely encasing and total unforgiving hour-plus wall submersion, then Thoughtless will do the trick. And I’m sure in time I’ll get on to checking out more of the project work, as they certainly know how to build effective enough wall matter.
