Macromenia - Brutalismo [Karo Productions. - 2022]

Brutalismo is the fourth full-length album from this harsh noise project, which brings together USA’s Joe Roemer of PE project Macronympha, and Ecuadorian  Leonardo Sabatto( solo & D.A.F.O.S.M.). It’s a CD album that severs up eleven slices of thick, nastily messy, and searingly shifting noise craft.

The pro-printed CD comes presented in a see-through jewel, this feature hazed ‘n’ blurred monochrome art that takes in upright skeletal remains, 1940s-like female figures, and various occult-like symbols. We also get a fold-out inlay- featuring credits and more similar artwork. The release appears on Sweden’s Karo Productions.

The release takes in eleven tracks, which feature runtimes between three and ten minutes. And really throughout the album, we find a very thick and crude take on the harsh noise form, which largely focuses on searing and roasting mids and low- with lines of high-pitched matter appearing every so often in the dense mass of sound. We go from hazed churn ‘n’ fuzz of “Indecent” which is edged by nerve-fraying junk bays ‘n’ swirls. Onto droned-out to cluttering nihilism of “Orifice” featuring a shifting caustic map of crates, pluses, and discordant hovers.

In its second half, we go from “Sanguinolent” with its blend of high-pitched sustain sweeps and cluttering bays. Onto the violent radio wave-like sweeps meet sputtering static jumps of “Aberration”. Finishing off with the rapid shred ‘n’ bay of  “Truncation”.

Brutalismo is a release for those after very dense and nasty harsh noise. Sure it’s not the most textural varied of noise releases, but if you looking for long and pained dwells in roasting sear ‘n’ bay this certainly fits the bill!.
