Occlusion - 57 Re Remix Silence [Self release - 2022]Here’s another example of textured/ walled noise from France’s Occlusion- who theme all of their releases around medical operations, with rather nauseating pictures for each release. 57 Re Remix Silence takes in two twenty-minute track- and the theme of this release is eye operation, with a close up-picture of said operation. As with all of this project’s work, and much of the present walled noise scene, this release is a digital affair. It appears on the project's own bandcamp- and you can check it out directly here…but do click cautiously- if you're in any way sensitive about medical operation photos.
The first track here “180” runs at the 22.01 mark. And what we have here is largely sparse and stripped back, if detailed textured wall-craft. I'd say maybe akin to a more busy and taut Rien- the track consists of a series of skipping ‘n’ jumping lines of static, thin purring slips ‘n’ slides, more even passages of static jitter, galloping rips, and weaves crisps clutters. It’s a most compelling track, and over several plays, your mind tracks down the different patterns occurring to a wonderful rewarding result.
The second/ final track is “181”- and this comes in at the 16.30 mark. Here we find a nervy/ on-off mixture of skittering rip, blunt bass skip, and more higher tone pitch pulse jitter. The blend of different tonal ranged elements here is rather creative, and to be honest, I could have easily played this track for twice its length- as the wall is both taut, yet at the same time rather playful.
57 Re Remix Silence is my second taster of Occlusion work- and I must say I was impressed both by the detail & scope of the textures featured, the fairly original focuses of the project's theme, and the general feeling that there has been both time & thought put into this release. Roger Batty
