Hadopelagyal - Nereidean Seismic End [Amor Fati / Ván - 2022] The Hadopelagic zone is the deepest ocean region, lying within trenches that range between 20,000 to 36,000 ft deep. And it is from this that this German black metal duo derive its name. The band were formed in 2016, bringing together Hekla (guitar, vocals) and Augur (drums). They have a handful to their names taking in the self-released demo cassette XXXVI XXXI N XXV XXVIII O (2018), the split CD The Orphic Chasm with Kosmokrator (Ván, 2020), the split CD Conjuring Subterranean Vortex with Thorybos (Amor Fati, 2020) and now, their latest offering Nereidean Seismic End is unleashed. Nereidean Seismic End is all about a primordial chaos, which is amalgamated with endless and crushing poundings. The seven tracks/torments of strict blacked metal annihilation, consolidated with adrenalin-infused blast beat battering, in-your-face guitars and abysmal vocals that shred and rip , and a fitting dungeon-like/ muddy production. Despite the lack of a bass guitar, Hadopelagyal sound is akin to a hammering fist upon the skull
Flirting absurdly with elements grindcore, Hadopelagyal is sliding beyond the boundaries of the genre – yet they never bastardise their monomaniac flow. True to their search and destroy mission, the songs here are painfully abrasive and concrete, with zero compromises; unpolished and raw. Truly an apocalyptic noise descent into the sonic stench of aural darkness, and a suffocating precipitation to black metal minimalist convulsions.
Seismic is indeed the best word to describe the album. Stripped of anything other than relentless bombardments, which are saturated with cunning melodies, heavily concealed under a barren sonic wasteland, Hadopelagyal are spreading their hymns of destruction. Nereidean Seismic End is an ear-bleeding massacre, and a wall of sound punctured with a tremor that mangles the senses with its unstoppable barrage!. Karl Grümpe
