Woven Hand - Mosaic [GlitterHouse Records - 2006]Woven hand comes off with an interesting mix of influence and sounds. Part Goth, part earthy American folk and to a lesser extent rock touches. Also there feels quite a retro feel in the way the songs are interposed and sung, almost an 80’s darker pop vibe I guess. Almost at bizarrely at times like a Goth Sprinteen, which is somewhat freaky. This is the third woven hand album the band was originally conceived as a solo project of 16 Horse Powers David Eugene Edwards, but since 16 house power disintegration Woven hand has become Edwards main concern. There’s noting too challenging or experimental here just well written dark toned gothic country come pop songs, which I’m sure will be enjoyed by the fans of Nick Cave and the like. Each song is knee deep in god fearing atmosphere and high with tales of deserted hearts and hard life’s. Its hums of wide open black & white expanses of American landscape, seemly deep with almost earthy spiritual feeling. Organ pump away in funeral like grace, guitars picked and strummed taste of desert winds and preachers with no names making there way across changeless landscapes. Certainly be of enjoyment to those who enjoy more darker country and folk climbs, though some of this is a little samey, but I guess could be said of much of Nick Caves work as well- really if you’re a cave fan – worth a look.
