Rob Winstone - I Dreamt We Round A Way [Warmer Winters - 2022]

With I Dreamt We Round A Way - the third album Bristol, UK,
based sound artist Rob Winstone. We are invited to submerge ourselves into an ambient world where images and thoughts are running constant and deep.

I Dreamt We Found A Way is characterized by an overall dreamy, poetic and hazy aesthetic, the equivalent in sound, of what Andrei Tarkovsky, for example, did in cinema. It’s an album where sound serenades are splashed with emotional calmness, then filled with an abstract narration.
These settings put different sonic elements together with emphatic creativity, driving -or guiding- the listening experience down the desired path. An album utterly cinematic, where the sound is thick and plenty.

A certain darkness overwhelms the whole album in a decidedly profound way. However, it's not a dark ambient album, on the contrary, darkness is not absolute, it is this special kind of dark mood that implies light may occur sometimes and until then, one can only embrace the moments as they are, stripped from anything but their existence. So deep listening is advised.

Collectively, I Dreamt We Found A Way feels like torn and scattered photograph fragments, with each one telling a different part of a single story, with the moody emotion being the only obvious link between the pieces. The essence of this work as I perceived it, is the feeling of anticipation. With Winstone is employing various elements of ambient and electronic music, merged with some neo-classical bits, probably field recordings and a minimalism that is being evident, especially in certain moments of the work. Most importantly, I Dreamt We Found A Way” is a stream of feelings, cathartic and nourishing, like the autumn rain after a scorching summer.
