HOMExINVASION - Obscene Publication [Self release - 2022]Obscene Publication sees the welcome return of UK waller HOMExINVASION, who I don’t think I’ve heard anything from for in a few years. This is a single track release, featuring a stark-yet-manic example of the walled noise form. The release is a self-released digital affair, with the cover artwork taking in two pixelated pictures of women’s shoes & tight covered legs, with a backdrop of different coloured pills. This release can be found just here on the project's bandcamp.
The single self-titled track slides in at spot on the twenty-minute mark. It’s a starkly realized and lightly reverbed wall, which is made up of a blend of beaded cable drags ‘n’ pops, manically darting snaps, and slightly glitch subtones. The whole thing has a feeling of both nervous flitting, echoed uneasy, and wiry unpredictability. At points the layers nice blend & blur together, at others, I’m getting busy yet certain separation occurring. It’s a ‘wall’ that reveals its own interesting nuances on both headphones & speaker play- with the former there’s often a feeling of crowded impaction, on the latter a starkly cold snap ‘n’ grit vibe.
I do hope this release signals that there is more new work coming from HOMExINVASION, as the Uk wall scene has been somewhat dead in recent years- and the project always had a creative & often interesting take on wall-crafting. Roger Batty
