Wolf Eyes - Human Animal [Sub Pop - 2006]

Human animal sees Wolf eyes taking  a more atmospheric and dread filled take on their sound; making an album that’s  full of shadowy shades and tints of  blood  reds. Where their last full length release on Sub pop Burned mind, felt like a brutal and crazed audio hammer attack with slight breathers. Human Animal feels like been caught in some hellish dungeon unsure what lies in wait for you or possible awaking  tied to a table unsure how you got here and all you can smell is  blood and decay.

Those looking for a rerun of tracks like Stabbed in the face and the like, will be sorely disappointed, sure there’s some overloading moments but they are  few and far between and appear towards the end of the album. Also this seems to work better as one long audio tortured, than individual   batterings, so not really any single material. Human animal is all about conjuring up and building dread and fear, there’s lots of space with-in  the composition, the notes and sounds are aloud to feaster and reek of pain, clankings and electro discharged weep together, gutturally human chattering appear from behind sinister throbbing industlised music scapes . Also there’s some nice use of Saxophone here as well adding, a  sickly avant – grade sinister jazz edge to the proceedings.

This really stands as a brave move for a second major label release,  it will remain to see how it goes down with fans of Burned Mind. But for my part it’s clear to see that the band are making every effort to grow and mature  their sound, or maybe one should say to decay their sound, Letting it crawl with maggots. All Making this one of the most rewarding trips into audio hell, you’ll likely find this year.
