Whores Breath - Very Overwhelmed [Death To Dynamics - 2022]Very Overwhelmed severs up two searingly intense slabs of walled noise. Each track runs near/ around the twenty minutes mark, and each is suitable intense-yet fairly creative in its textural use. This digital release appears on Death To Dynamics, a recently set up UK based netlabel run by Tom Wilson, of wall projects The Night Porter & SLOWGURN. The releases cover artwork is simple and brutally stark- featuring a severed pigs head hanging by a meat hook in the middle of its head. And this nicely nods towards the crude and nastily seared wall attacks within. To check this release out/ download- just drop by here.
First up we have the nineteen minutes and twenty-two seconds of “Pig Lawn”. Here we find a muffled and airless low-end rumble meeting an endless smashing swim of hiss 'n' strike. Together these elements create a ‘wall’ that feels like a stretched, blurred, and condense recording of constantly rolling drums. The whole thing managers to feel both unrelenting and oppressive, yet greyly hazed and muffling too- which is an interesting blend.
Next, we have the spot on eighteen and a half minutes “Ga-net”. This ‘wall’ is built around a blend of swirling and stark mid rage scrub/ cold lash, and distant rumble ‘n’ crack. To me this track feels a lot more weather like than the oppressive intensity of the first track, with the mid-range sounding often like either cold ice lined rain or someone constantly rubbing scouring power into a once bright and shiny surface, with the other elements bringing to mind a blend of that sudden break for lashing rain, or distant winter thunder.
This I believe is the fourth release I’ve heard from this Cincinnati, Ohio based project- and I must say I’m once again most impressed by what’s on offer here. Both tracks share a searing intensity, yet the way the textures are used and presented for each are rewardingly different. This is a great opening wall noise release to start 2021 with, and I’m looking forward to more quality material like this from Whore’s Breath over the year. Roger Batty
