Yotzeret Sheydim - 61 Broken Things [Self release - 2021]61 Broken Things is a rather interesting cross-breed of a release bringing together wonky-to-moody synth scaping, seared ‘n’ junk tipped noise craft, and extreme vocals. It’s a release that swings between geeky ‘n’ charming, and intense ‘n’ brutally deranged- which is an odd mix, but it all works surprisingly well. The release appeared as either a C40- in stamped nickel alloy j-card in a norelco case and nickel alloy ring , or a digital download. Sadly, the physical version is all gone now, but I’d say this is well worth still checking out/ downloading- as it’s a decidedly distinctive and original creation, and if you like where geeky-meets-intensity this is a must.
Yotzeret Sheydim is the project of Alyx -a trans-gender noise/ jewellery maker from Pittsburgh. As far as I can gather the sonic venter has been active since early 2021- releasing coming on for twenty releases thus far, with quite a few of these featuring her metal/ jewellery work in the packaging.
We move from the moodily bouncing ‘n’ pulsing keys-meets-roaring ‘n’ baying noise/ vocalizing of “Roses For The Corpse”. Onto brightly flowing -to- manic synth randomness come swirling noise spin of “The Chained Beast Howls”. There’s “Seeking Absolution” with its mix of choppy electro hoover shifted and swarming noise sweeps, or the lengthy “Storm Of Forgetfulness” which melds jiving ‘n’ feed-back scared organ jams with buzzing-to-chugging noise clouds.
In all the release features twelve tracks, and these each have runtimes between two and eight minutes. And I must say it’s a largely varied and creative formed collection of tracks on offer here, with Alyx nicely experimental with her set up- which for this release featured a once broken Roland Juno 60 analogue synthesizer, and a noise mask- that’s made from a 24ga sheet copper and a contact microphone, and covers the lower half the face of the artists face.
All in all, I came away from 61 Broken Things feeling both rewardingly seared and geekily charmed. I’ll certainly be looking forward to checking out more of this projects work down the line. To check this out and download your own copy head just here Roger Batty
