Yotzeret Sheydim & Submachine Gun - Scaffolding of Truth [Self release - 2021]Scaffolding of Truth is a C40/ digital download release bringing together the work of two trans-gender wall noisemakers- featured here we have Pittsburgh based Yotzeret Sheydim, and Illinois based Submachine Gun. This release appeared in late May of this year- with the tape coming in an edition of just ten copies, unsurprisingly these have all gone now- so ones the only option now is a digital download- which can be found here . The tape finds a black cassette coming in a monochrome sleeve, which featured a picture of what looks like a deer skull, with weaves of strings between the antlers. Each artist offers up two ten minutes track apiece.
First, out on side A we have two tracks from Yotzeret Sheydim- this is the noise/ wall noise project of Alyx III, who also makes jewellery/ metal art, which sometimes she incorporates with her noise releases. The project has seemingly kicked off this year- with so far putting out an impressive nearing twenty releases. We kick off with “Revealing The Hidden Signs”- this opens with a hammering and stuck rapid tone judder, fairly soon this starts to blur and haze in its attack, with a blend of sub-bass purr, mid-ranged chug ‘n’ hack, and tightly weaved jumping ‘n’ jittering static. As we move on, we get effective sweeps of grim bass hover, which adds a feeling of subtle malevolence to the whole thing. Finally, on side one we have “All Signals Are Temporary”- here we find sludgy and bass bound drone pour wrapped around by a tight/thinner slight skipping mesh of jittering textures. This is dense yet oddly kind of skipping and playful in its attack, and of the two tracks I’d say this stand as my fav, as the whole thing has a rewardingly entrancing feel.
Moving onto side B and we have two tracks from Submachine Gun- this is one of the projects of Cory Adieen(Root Cellar, Monolithic Torment), with this project been active on and off since 2020- with it having twelve releases to its name. We open up with “Withering Foundation” here we find a constantly rolling and rumbling low-end, topped with smaller crispy jitter ‘n’ snapping textures- there’s a nice fixed buffeting wind like roar to the whole thing with is effective locking rush to its attack. Next, we have “Lack Of Empathy”- here we find constantly tumbling bass pour, which is surrounded by smaller snaping ‘n’ popping textures. Again of the two tracks here I’d say this was the most effective, due to its rewardingly tight and pleasing bass numbing feel.
In finishing Scaffolding of Truth is a rewarding split with two sides worth of dense/ bass lined wall-craft from this pair. with each artists gives its own twists on this type of wall-making, with the whole thing flowing well as a forty-minute play. Roger Batty
