X Feverfew X - Your Transgressions Part Two [Enforced Existence - 2021]Your Transgressions Part Two is a sixteen-minute track that swings between strung-out to wonky indie guitar twang ‘n’ churn, and more intense bowel rupturing guitar feedback. Here on Pittsburgh based Enforced Existence is a CDR/ digital release, which is ltd to twenty five physical copies- and as of this review the label still has copies for sale. The sharpie squiggled CDR comes presented in a yellow, black, and white PC printed cover. This takes in on its front what looks like an illustration of a series of roots, with the back taking in release related texts and its release date of March this year.
X feverfew X has seemingly been active since last year released a couple of splits and a c30 on James Shearman’s Small Worm label. This Michigan based is all the work of one Anais Lake, and I must say I enjoyed the tracks swing between awkward and at points tearful, and blown-out sonic violence on offer here.
The single track rolls in at a second over the sixteen-minute mark. And it’s fair to say it’s rather broken into two settings, for the first eight or so minutes we find twanged-to-wavering guitar tones, which are largely spaced out in an awkward strung-out manner with the addition of weedy sing-song vocals. Then we move into more churning and wonkily chugging guitar tone, which is edged scrubbing feedback wails, deep raw tone bounces, and a few distant vocal wails. When the switch happens between the two settings this is done in an impactful manner, with the voice wavering with true emotion and suppressed upset- and when the feedback kicks in, it really does so with some real intensity.
If you enjoy where wonky and felt meets-churning and organ splitting noise, then I think you’ll find some appeal in what’s severed up on Your Transgressions Pt. 2. It’ll certainly interest to hear what Lake does next because there is clearly both off-kilter creativity and troubled emotional power present in the sound here. Roger Batty
