Submachine Gun - The Task Force [Self Release - 2021]The Task Force is a crunching ‘n’ snapping slice of the walled noise, which is nicely bass grinding, yet at the same time texturally detailed in its attack. Here we have a digital download release that features a single fifty-minute track. Submachine Gun is one of the projects of US noise maker Cory Aideen, who is also behind the likes of Monolithic Torment, Root Cellar, and a few others. As far as I can gather she started the project last year- with around four or five release thus far to its name. And the theme for the project is guns, and military-related fare.
The single track here rolls in at fifty minutes and twenty two-second mark. It's centred on a constantly bass churning tone ,which is both ragged & muffled. Around this, we find layers of blunt judder, rumbling crunch, and cluttering hack- with a selection of thinner fleeting gritty tones, edged in amongst the other textures. The bass churning adds a crude & faintly droning quality, while the surrounding layers pull you in with their rough & ready, yet entrancing pummel. And the smaller gritty tones nicely pull your focus even more. To me, this track feels akin to watching a desert shack been constantly rattled 'n' shaked by shredding semi-automatic gunfire, with the smaller textures simulating the dust & flying micro debris. Through-out Aideen really does nicely create a feeling of weighty, yet splintering oppressiveness- that very nicely mimics the pressing dry heat of the middle eastern desert.
Having enjoyed releases from both Root Cellar & Monolithic Torment it’s great to check out the work of Submachine Gun. And once again one can hear Aideen ability to blend worthy & rewarding with her wall-craft, so most certainly The Task Force is another worthy project/ release.
