Naughty Angel Raptures - Ultimate Freedom [Static Dreams - 2019]Naughty Angel Raptures is a two-piece wall-noise project that brings together husband & wife team Charlotte(Naughty & Exquise Esquisse) and Nemanja Nikoliæ(Dosis Letalis). Ultimate Freedom is the projects first full-length release- it appeared in late 2019 as either a double C30(unfortunately out of print) or a digital download on French label Static Dreams. The release features four fifteen minutes walls, with the last one being a collaboration with Canadian noise/ wall legend The Rita. The physical release came in an edition of nineteen copies- this featured two clear red shelled cassettes sitting together in a red( blood-coloured) washed sleeve, featuring black texts & a front cover image of two marble figurine angels embracing.
The sound here feels very much an equal bounding on both parties solo sound- with the deep & churning bass bound tones coming from Charlotte, and the more playful/ detailed texturing coming from Nemanja. Each ‘wall’ hits dead on the fifteen-minute mark, and on the whole, the double tape set is an enjoyable wall ride cut into four sonic slices.
First up we have “Absolute Surrender”- here we find we find purring 'n' churning lows, topped with a blend a skittering mids & thinner scrap bound rattles. To beginning with the track feels extremely low-end focused in its attack/ feel, but slow-&-surely your ears start to make out the rewarding mid to thinner static fed details. A nicely brutal, yet subtly nuanced wall to start things off with.
Moving onto the second side, and we have “Everything is Mine”. This is built around a most entrancing blend of droned out rumble, and constantly rolling clutter & snap static patternation. The low-end has a really nice muffled & barren earth moving quality to it, with the texturally static detail having a nice feel of feeding back into themselves to create a most entrancing textural weave- I’d say of the four ‘walls’ here this is my fav.
Onto the second tape & first up on side C we have “The Deepest Desire”- here we find a blend of compressed rub-bound chalky lows, topped with smaller choppy snaps & pops. Again there’s a nice balanced mixture of low crushing weighty-ness, and playful detail which nicely pulls you in and keeps your concentration locked.
Finally, on side D we have “The Wildest Rapture” which features Canadian noise legend The Rita, who should need little introduction to wall-heads. Here we find a rapid & constantly bounding rip, topped by a tone locked rattle, and slight skittering grain. Once again we have a nice mix of both of lows & mids, with The Rita adding in his brutal shunt like sensibilities to the mix.
All in all Ultimate Freedom is a rewarding two-hour wall-noise trip, with each track have their value/ worth. Let us hope there is some more Naughty Angel Raptures material in the future, as it’ll be interesting where duo take their sound next.
