Various Authors - Into The Velvet Darkness-A Celebration Of Vincent [Buzzy Krotik Productions - 2019], A Century Of Horror- A Pictorial History Of Cinefantastique, and of course the We Belong Dead Magazine." /> | Into The Velvet Darkness is a book that celebrates the many sides of respected US actor genre actor Vincent Price. It’s a glossy & full-colour coffee table book, which takes in just over three hundred and fifty pages. The 2019 book is from the We Belong Dead team, who brought us the books Unsung Horrors & its sequel Son of Unsung Horrors , We’re British Y’ Know!"-A Celebration of Peter Cushing, A Century Of Horror- A Pictorial History Of Cinefantastique, and of course the We Belong Dead Magazine. As we’ve come to expect from the We Belong Dead team we get a classy presentation. The books a large format paperback book, with a glossy cover featuring on it’s front a great painted picture of Mr Price in a top hat looking mournful, and on the back cover we find another painting taking in Price in few of the many roles he played. The book is highly colourful through-out, with a great blend of stills, poster artwork, photos, and more.
The book takes over seventy separate articles by different writers, and these run between a few & six pages apiece. And really is astonishing the range here- we move from the expected horror film overview/ write-up, onto pieces about Prices' theatrical triumphs, through write-up about Noir & Swashbuckler films featuring the great man. Moving onto novel tie in of films featuring Price, film soundtrack reviews, comics featuring Price. TV appearances, his love of cooking & his cooking show Cooking With Price- which rang for six episodes in the early 1970s. Moving onto filming location tours, Collecting Price memorabilia, and making Price figurines etc . Each article is well written- with the writing style moving between well researched & informative, to passionate-yet down to earth, to playful & slightly humorous. I’ve been a fan of Mr Prices work since been a teen in the late 1980s, and I found out a whole host of Price related information I wasn’t aware of before- making this wonderful book really a must for fans of Mr Price.
At present this book is on sale at a knock-down price of £30.00- so head over here to snag a copy before it sells out, as We Belong Dead titles do tend to go out of print quickly- and I’m really surprised that there are still copies of this left!. Roger Batty
