Ufomammut - Lucifer Songs [Supernatural Cat - 2006]Lucifer Songs is a mix of industrialized doom, dark ambient with prog touches, and liberal splashes of samples here and there. The album comes both in its audio form and visual form in the shape of a DVD with visual dark psychedelics interpretation of the tracks. It comes of as a mix of a more grimy version of Neurosis, mixing in touches of slow down ministry and memories of early scorn with it's slight dub like flutters, down beat ambient sprawls and an ear for eighties synthesizer horror soundtracks. The tracks are enjoyable enough, having enough to keep your attention through out. They do seem to work best as one long track as themes and samples are repeated. The DVD really brings the material alive with its freaky mix of dark psychedelics, strobe images, and lots of fire. On the downside I feel some time they seem a little cack-handed with some of the sample work, and it does seem to loop it’s self a little too much for my likening. But a satisfying enough trip into doom prog psycodelics, worthy of your attention. This is supernatural cat’s first release as a label, they specialized in concert poster work in the past. Here they offer a nice arty dark item, which holds promise for the future releases. To order direct and hear and see samples of music and visuals go here
