Shumoizolyatsiya - Visibilis Trans Illusio [Void Singularity Recordings - 2019]Visibilis Trans Illusio is a C20 from Russain Hash noise wall maker Shumoizolyatsiya- it features two examples of dense, yet interesting layered wall matter. The release appeared early summer last year- and surprisingly the label Uk Void Singularity Recordings still has copies left. The black shelled & labeled on both side tape is presented in a darkly hued cover that takes in various smeared/ dragged blacks, reds, yellows, and murky whites- with the band name in a scrawled like font. The tape labels feature similar art. It came in an edition of twenty copies, and as I mentioned in my intro- I’m very surprised there are copies left, as Shumoizolyatsiya is certainly one of the more interesting & distinctive sounding projects working in the walled noise genre at present.
As is fairly typical with the walled noise genre both of these tracks are untitled- so first up we the 9.59 of "Untitled 1". Here we find a dense, raging, yet rewardingly layered ‘wall’ that has an almost churning industrial feel to its head grinding mass. The ‘wall’ is built around a constantly spinning 'n' grind low-end, and chopping & spiralling mids- with a shifting, but often buried selection of hammering junk tones, cluttering blade-like static pile-ups, and the occasion deep bass stab & dart. It feels akin to been thrown down a vast seem endless steel tunnel, that’s layered with chopping & sparking blades, rattle & descending junk flies, and constantly hissing static feeds. It’s a great & odd exhilarating ‘wall’ that initially rams into you with its dense mass- but over time you get to make out & cherish the layered detail.
Flipping the tape over, and we have "Untitled 2"- this once again is very dense, through maybe slightly paired back a few layers from the first track. Here we find a blend of droning-yet-billowing low end, constantly descending static cluttered, and slightly less buried junk rattle 'n' bang. This ‘wall’ feels a little more set in its structure- but it’s once again a rewarding blend of textures, which the project sets together into a compelling & pummeling wall.
After hearing a few splits from Shumoizolyatsiya it’s great to hear a worthy if short stand-alone release from the project. Visibilis Trans Illusio really shows the project standing up to the blended & densely textured promise of those split, to offer up two industrial seared examples of ‘wall-craft’ that sound fairly distinctive & original.
