Machinefabriek - Marijun [Lampse - 2006]Machinefabriek’s Marijun dwells very much in streached and repetitive piano tones, that make up droning and slow moving canvas of sound, that drift into clouds of melancholy cords, often smudged by glitchness and other noise. For me the second half seems to offer up the highlights; J’espere ca with its rolling piano notes, which seem to hint, of some bedraggled band of travels making there way on a slow arduous journey. The piano been stretched and treated and echoed, giving a really vast quality. In the end a wonderful, beautiful and sad track. Lawine- the longest track here, at near on twenty minutes. Builds up slowly, starting with ambient haze, then slowly the eerier piano cords make their way in, adding in some really nice ,bluesy fills along the way. You can really feel the whole musical air, is thick with anticipation. As the track moves on the audio air becomes denser, building up the tension, the last four minutes of the track build up into a world wind of sound, using some great noise textures, giving a breath taking and heady end to and interesting release. That’s sure to turn heads of both ambient and noise fans, alike. Roger Batty
