Tab In/Tab Out - Lighting Strike Scars [Void Singularity Recordings - 2019]Lighting Strike Scars is a lengthy submersion in thick, whipping & battering storm like walled noise from this Portland, Oregon project. The release, a pro pressed CDR or digital download, appeared in April on UK wall label Void Singularity Recordings- it came in an edition of ten copies, and as of writing the label still, have copies which can be purchased from the labels Bandcamp. The release features a single self-titled track, and this slides in at spot on the seventy-minute mark. And from the start you know you are in for a truly unforgiving & pummelling sonic ride- as the ‘wall’ kicks straight in with a focused & dense blend of the following textures- rapidly grappling ‘n’ grinding low-end, constantly cascading waves of rattle & chop, and a selection of buffing ‘n’ crudely purring sub-tones. Together these elements create a pure & concentrated maelstrom of thick sound- which wraps & pins you from the outset- not letting you go until seventy minutes later.
The textures and the way they are blended is crude, yet defined enough rush- all making Lighting Strike Scars for a fairly engrossing & enchanting example of wall matter. Sure there’s nothing really experimental or fancy going on here, but when your after sonically locking out the world around you for just over an hour- this will do more than fine.
According to Discogs the Tab In/Tab Out project has been in existence for around a year, and has so far racked up around eleven releases- I must say I was impressed with what I heard on Lighting Strike Scars, & will looking forward to both checking out some of the projects back catalog as well as new work too.
