Pig Shrapnel - Foot Fetish [Hair On Your Food - 2018]Foot Fetish severs up two sonically roasting ‘n’ searing slabs of walled noise from this Florida project, who themes all its work around pigs & pork products. The release comes in the form of a C30/ digital download- with each 15-minute wall been equally nastily appealing, like munching down on a extremely grease & crunchy side of pork roast. Behind Pig Shrapnel is long-term noise scenester Joe The Stache - also of projects Hoggle, Extreme Chafing , Heavy Metal Vomit Party, and runner of noise labels Hair On Your Food tape label. The project started in around 2011, and has so far put out around eleven or so releases- taking in CDR albums, tapes & splits.
As the releases title suggests the theme here is Pigs Feet, and the double-sided monochrome cover takes in a picture of severed pig trotters on it’s front, then inside a jar of pickled pigs feet. The tape came in an edition of twenty-three copies back in April of last year, and as of writing the label still has copies.
The first sides track is entitled “The Smell”- here we get a rapid deep ‘n’ nasty billowing, which is surrounded by a selection of spluttering, cluttering & spitting textures. The whole thing very much feels like you’ve been locked inside a huge industrial spit-roast, with the heat raging & roasting around you- as the massive pig carcass turns round & round, with all manner of popping, snapping & fizzing cooking sounds. The ‘walls’ structure is seemingly fairly firm & extremely fierce in it’s unfold( save for a few layers pare backs)- with Mr Stache nicely keeping you locked into the raging batter & churn of the whole thing.
Flipping over to the second side, and we have “The Taste”- this time we get a cluttering low-end judder, and this is encased in smarting layers of chalky chop & hack. The low-end here is particularly nasty & at times rapidly guttural bubbling in its feel, with the searing hack ‘n’ chop really working as an effective contrast. Not sure if this really brought to mind eating pork, but it’s certainly another brutally intense wall- which once again has a fairly addictive feel to it's bluntly battering & flaming flow.
Foot Fetish is on par with past Pig Shrapnel releases- in it’s brutal, yet decidedly moorish presentation of cluttering ‘n’ crude wall noise matter. It’s not in any way progressive, particularly inventive, or fresh sounding- but if you have a need for ear scalding HNW that shows no mercy, then Foot Fetish will most certainly hit the spot.
