Choisir Le Pire - Représentation du Six [[Le Recours aux Forêts - 2018]

French power electronics project Choisir Le Pire brings forth the grimy funk on the limited tape,  Représentation du Six. Consisting of one near twenty minute track, this no frills, ripping approach is a refreshing taste of blistering, throbbing noise. Recorded live (the best way), the lack of overdubs gives the listener a front row seat to scathing static in is glory.

In a time when too much can get wrapped up in production, it's refreshing to hear an album that is just passion, pure and simple. Choisir Le Pire's tape is simple in its essence, but interesting and active in its delivery. Rolling waves of distorted static deliver the message of seething hatred, smuggling squiggly textures along with it. Not content on letting a sound become more than its intended place in the track, active switches in gear open new doors and new sounds. Interestingly tremolo'd bits help to cut up the action, and add nice slices of silence into the rough murk. Gruff vocals help thicken the mix as well, and Choisir Le Pire's creation moves along quickly, roughly, and very nicely.

Bringing the power back to power electronics, Choisir Le Pire's Représentation du Six is a quick, raw recording of passion through machinery. Crunchy and fun, this is a good reminder of the cathartic power of noise. Pop this one in, turn it up, and enjoy the mayhem.
