Sodomy From Beyond - Monument Filth [Modern Decadence - 2017]

Monument Filth is the very first release from this Mexican noise project. And it certainly lives up to its title as it offers up seven slices of thick, brutalizing,  and grimy noise-matter that blurs the lines between harsh noise, bleak ‘n’ overloaded synth-craft, extremely muffled/ slurred beats, unwell industrial elements, and buried ‘n’ searing-yet depraved vocal elements.

The release is a pro pressed CDR, which is presented in a four panel digipak- this features grim colleges of dead bodies, skinned human faces, and bones. Behind Sodomy From Beyond( or SFB) is Carlos D, who is one half of Torture Treatment, who put out a excellent debut tape early this year on Ominous Recordings, which blended up a nasty soup of PE, death industrial, harsh noise, & HNW.

I guess all of Monument Filth has a similar dense-yet- crude feel to that of the Torture Treatment tape; but the mood/ tone is less shifting & more focused in on  the overload synth elements & extremely blown-out/ mangled vocals- with a few tracks having very slurred & worn beats/ bass elements running through them in a often haphazard way.

Each of the albums seven tracks runs between three & eight minutes a piece. And through-out all eight tracks there is zero let-up, paring back, or thinning occurring- as SFB presents you with first one dense & debilitating noise attack after another. Quite a lot of the time it’s feels quite noise-jam like, or thick noise freefall in it’s feel. But there are interesting & worthy details in each of the tracks here, and through each is total overloaded- they are each clearly composed & arranged for repeat listening.

As dense & noise genre blending goes Monument Filth is satisfying stuff, and I’ve found myself returning to it quite a few times of late, to see if I can hunt down any more detail in  it’s thick & brutal mass. Certainly if you enjoyed the Torture Treatment tape, or like overloaded, filthy, yet detailed noise matter it’s certainly worth a look.
