Steel Hook Prostheses - Calm Morbidity [Malignant Records - 2016]

Steel Hook Prostheses have been knocking about the death industrial scene for 15 years now – a fact that makes me feel bloody old! - and have belted out 9 albums during that period.Calm Morbidity, their latest 10 track release, takes their level of despair to an otherwise unfounded level.

Beginning with “Doused In Acid” and voices from catacombs this album already takes on a haunted quality before you even realise you are about to be hit in the chest with a stone that just pummels away at you as the voices get increasingly angry that the stone can’t get through you fast enough. And all the while, the mesmeric haunting just continues on behind you, oblivious to your pain.

As the pain fades to a dull ache, “Cyclopia”, continues the assault – a high pitched whine backed by the unendingly repetitive beating of an engine’s heart from some unworldly machine of torture. Your flesh ripped from your body by it’s cruelty and then you realise the whine is your own voice begging for mercy.

Mercy, unfortunately, fails to appear, instead “The Hand Of Glory”. Death Industrials punk track (and that is not meant to be an insult!) This is a fast paced piece of music, this is the torturer talking his way through your pain, enjoying your anguish and his power.

“The Medicus”, or your visit from the torturers physician, ensuring you are able to continue with the pain. Of course you are, you are beginning to enjoy the pain a little, the submission. Your choices removed, you a left to endure whatever is beset you.

And then calm, “Parathesia”. Not what you expected. Your left alone, there’s only your own breath to hear, and the hum of the power lines. Darkness, blood and sweat. Unnervingly alone. And lost. your bones ache, you body having been torn apart “Deep In The Marrow” is the dull thudding pain.

From this point forward you are nothing more than a play thing, to be humiliated, a “Piss Prophet”, a drain. Your internal organs there for prodding and poking, “Stranguary”, cut off, and bloated. Before your body’s dispensed with a “Sulphur Drip”.

Buy Calm Morbidity  and immerse yourself in the pain and morbidity of Steel Hook Prostheses. Stunning!
