Pig Shrapnel - Snouts, Lips & Assholes [Busey Teeth CDr - 2016]Here’s a recent CDR release from this Pig product themed project from Florida, & it offers up searing yet shifting slice of noise intensity. The hour long piece on offer here blends together elements of HNW, dense harsh noise & junk metal abuse to create an enjoyable assault on ones sonic senses. Behind the project is long-term noise scene-ster Joe The Stache - also of projects Hoggle, Extreme Chafing , Heavy Metal Vomit Party, and runner of noise labels Hair On Your Food tape label. As mentioned early this project themes all of it’s releases around pork based products. And seemingly specific pork theme here is this release is the hot dog sausage, as the cover features colour pictures of them, and of course the hot dog sausage is meant to be made from the less desirable elements of pigs, hence the title. As with all of Joe’s projects there's a fun/ tongue-cheek-vibe air to the release, but he’s very focused & serious about his noise-making. The hour long track opens with a searing torrent of grinding & shredding tones- I'm guessing this is meant to be the start of the sausage making process. Fairly soon things settle down a little as a billow & rapid noise drone is set in place, and to this Joe adds a slowly shifting landscape of jittering & ripping junk metal, caustically showering mid-ranged harsh noise texturing, churning ‘n’ spitting static texturing, grainy sweeps & blunt jitters, and beyond. As the track progress farther we get some shifts in the more set billowing tone, yet it never shifts too much, as the other noise elements are layered on-top. On the whole the tracks extremely intense & body pinning in its dense rush, yet most rewarding in its shifting layers of textural details. There aren’t really many noise artists who can successful blend together HNW, harsh noise, and junk metal into a rewarding & appealing whole as Pig Shrapnel do, off the top of my head I’d say just Richard Ramirez & his Black Leather Jesus are the only others. All in all Snouts, Lips, & Assholes is another rewarding long form track from the project, and really a must have for those who enjoy a sound that nicely blends together a few noise genres into a searing yet highly rewarding sound.
